DO YOU FEEL THE SAME? (TODD TERRY & 6TH BOROUGH PROJECT REMIXES)
12 Inch 17.12.14
do you feel the same by hercules &love affair is easily one of the biggest dancefloor tracks of 2014, the powerful vocal and catchiness made it an anthem in its own right. now with re-works from one of the most celebrated figures in dance music todd terry and talented duo 6th borough project the record has been taken in different, but equally dynami,c directions. todd terrys remix keeps the uplifting dance quality of the track whilst adding his signature style of house that was instrumental in creating the deep/progressive house we listen to today. the dub takes the focus away from the vocal and has more of an underground and tech sound. 6thborough project often explore long forgotten funk and disco dubs, and with their remix of the track they manage to keep the disco sound of hercules &love affairs original track, even with the bpms dropped down to something far more mellow than the original.
the year is 2014 and were looking into the upon.you-diary again of which the fourth and most recent chapter has been written by our long time friend and stalwart producer gunnar stiller who has been digging deep into the sonic layers of our universe to unearth shining house-, techhouse -, techwhatever-diamonds perfectly reflecting the upon.you-sound of today
low-down and dirty jazz goes right back to the early 1900s in storyville, after the bands had played their hot tunes in the evening for dancing couples, the musicians would head off to the after-hours joints and play a less energetic but more bluesy kind of music, enabling them and their late-night audiences to get through to the early hours of the morning without suffering total exhaustion. and nobody in new orleans laid into the blues so low down and dirty as buddy bolden, whose funky butt became a staple in the repertoire of the citys early jazz bands.
jacksonville, florida, 1960. charles hungry williams mentors young clayton fillyau after he had just joined the james brown band: *i dont care where you put it on those drums, remember where 1 is and you ll never lose the time. listen to hungry on huey smiths *talk to me baby* and then listen to how clayton turns it into a relentless breakbeat on james browns *i ve got money*. earl kings *trick bag*, prefiguring the meters, is as good an example of early new orleans funk as can be found.

elegant swingendes disco-boogie-debuet von ed lee mit einem starken und verdammt coolen gesang von alison david (the black sience orchester). maestro moonstarr verwandelte das original in ein uptempo hands in the air blockhaus stomper, während akshin alizadeh mit einigen nu-funk-beats nachwuerzt.

grab the new s&c 005 record, a split 12inch by ender & stiletti-ana, put it on and lay down on your sofa. hear the opening groove from enders track p.l.i.h. and find your self getting up immediately to turn the stereo a little louder. adapt your self to the super tight, locked & futuristic and very original techno groove. watch especially out for the killer stab line in it as it is just something you will most likely find your self humming while shopping or taking your dog out. after the original mix of p.l.i.h. you will hear the stiletti-ana s stripped down version. he must have cut everything else out in his mix with his switch blade besides the ruthless stab line. dig the endless and ever growing stab jacking and remember that p.l.i.h side of the record is very serious and addictive for both club & home users. turn the record around and go back to your sofa. hear the twisted detroitian afro acid disco of stiletti-ana s track i got the master unit. filled with merciless synths and forcing rhythms i got the master unit leaves no questions of the keeper of that unit. the user of the unit seems to turn all things to the max and play midi tracks with tesla coil a like instruments. after the original it is ender s time to use the master unit and turn down the lights and ask the question: do you think that there will be something nice happening soon?
sounding like the cosmic dub of a lost d-train hit, *out at the deep end* has already been featured by benji b on bbc radio and sparked a collectors frenzy on limited pre-release. the futuristic 80s classic vibe continues on the b-side with *into the rest*, a beautifully multilayered slow burner.
some asked for an instrumental version of that future classic. here it is, and to make it complete the record comes with another fine warehouse mix by victor himself and a bangin techno remix from the almighty tuff city kids.
kiwanuka, a 25 year-old uk native of ugandan heritage, was raised in north london where he split his time between session work and local gigs. along the way, having found footing as a solo artist, he was signed to communion records, then polydor, and has since performed throughout europe and north america too touring in direct support of adele. he made his way through nashville this past summer with just enough pause and aplomb to commit these morsels to tape. the a-side *you ve got nothing to lose* is an original composition, featuring the buzzards dominic davis on upright bass and cory younts on piano, joined also by fellow balladeer lillie mae rische on fiddle. their contributions transform his work into a stone-cold groove with almost orchestral underpinnings, making it a fitting extension of their previous blue series. the single also features a chilling rendition of townes van zandts infamous *waitin round to die* on the b-side, the perfect compliment to the timbre and mood of the a-side.
um den record store day 2014 zu feiern, präsentiert bbe zwei vorher unreleaste juwelen, geremixt von glasgows antwort auf walter gibbons, al kent. *when did you stop* von the js wurde sträflicherweise übersehen nach dem eigetnlichen release 1977 - mit ausnahme einiger dancefloors im norden englands. gleichzeitig war sandy barbers *i think i ll do some stepping on my own* ein großer hit, der allerdings keinen großartigen kommerziellen erfolg verbuchen konnte.

premium quality vinyl reissue of the highly collectible promo-only 12 inch *i, i, i* by unlikely balearic heroes the osmonds. first released in 1979, this fruitful collaboration between the proto-boyband and legendary pop-disco producer maurice gibb is a wonderful slab of chugging syncopated cosmic disco rock topped off with lush string arrangements which despite being criminally overlooked at the time of its original release, has recently garnered much favour with balearic aficionados. also surprisingly good is the flipsides *you re mine*, a more live sounding affair, coming across like steely dan met chicago at studio 54 and hit the studio on the way home. dont miss!
deep down slams first 2014 release is a collaboration between london based producer mikki funk who already made a name to himself releasing on labels like say ahh & milf and should be already known to many of you and berlin based producer peer du who makes his debut.

adam x was very much deep in it in 92: 23 years in the record-releasing game and counting to be exact. could be longer, as thats just going by his discography. founder of sonic groove, also known as traversable wormhole & amdx-71. its enough to know that the man is still seriously killing it, and this is absolutely no exception: acidic, metallic, raw and driving techno for the true heads.

dfa is proud to announce a new split single featuring both the juan maclean and shit robot. the single highlights the warped and wonky piano house both acts have become famous for. the juan maclean track features long time vocalist nancy whang (also of lcd soundsystem), who helps deliver yet another wildly catchy dance floor anthem, in line with prior collaborative successes “happy house” and “you are my destiny.” shit robot brings in famed stand up comedian (and closet soul vocalist) reggie watts whose incredible voice glides from falsetto to baritone in a single verse. the combination of the deep bass lines, wild voice and piano stabs weaving in and out make this one of the strongest and unique singles in the shit robot catalog. both shit robot & the juan maclean have full length albums due in 2014 on dfa records. limited to 500 stamped and numbered copies, includes digital download code.
